Web App Builder reporting widget

I need to create a widget in webappBuilder, to generate a report, that will contain map with its graphical layer, charts, and table.

Is there a widget that does this task, can I use the print widget, customize it and generate output that have this kind of report?

You might want to take a look at creating a geoprocessing task to use in the geoprocessing widget.

I also looking into that widget.

I truly believe it is a necessary widget with the web appbuilder. Are the widget group working on that?

How can I imagine that in the future it will not exist.

Yes I agree, reporting functionality is a critical part of spatial workflows. ESRI you need to develop this widget as part of the standard widget interface in WAB.

I set something similar up in my Flex Viewer version for a parcel report, and hope to do it with WAB if nothing better becomes available before I get to it. Here are the general steps I followed.

I created an mxd with a map, and lots of dynamic text such as zoning, school district, etc., that constitute the "report elements". For example the zoning text element is: <dyn type="document" property="ZONING" emptyStr = "Not available"/>. This is then published as a print service.
My parcel search tool (in the WAB I would modify Robert Scheitln's eSearch widget) publishes property related attributes if only one parcel is selected. When the print widget is opened, if data has been published by eSearch, then the user can choose a "parcel report" layout from the print options. Then the print widget needs to be modified to build the JSON to send the property data with the print request. Below is a partial example of the Json. The customTextElements portion is what sends the property characteristics that will then populate the report fields.

Here is an example of the PDF that is output. In this case the report is pretty simple, but there is no reason you couldn't add more elements. I don't know how you would do a multipage report using this method though. Also, I had an issue with our Firewall blocking the http POST request at first, because it gets pretty long with all those text parameters.

Just a follow up. It would be useful for any potential WAB report widget to be able to call upon nominated reports eg crystal reports, SQL reports, etc. Obviously the report and map would need a common identifier like the objectid or land parcel identifier, etc.

If this is not possible how about a simple report builder widget that allows the administrator to bring together the nominated map, attributes, chart, etc from a resultant query.

We had a similar issue for one of our clients. We ended up developing a GP tool that would allow the end user to either pick a feature on the map or produce a report for all features on the map. I agree that it would be a handy tool for the WAB, and it is very difficult to make a one work as an out of the box widget. It is specifically difficult with the layout and such that is needed. Attached is a sample from the one we created, this tool also embeds images from the attachment in the geodatabase.

We will likely be getting fancier in future versions of the tool but it is something that the client is very happy with having.

Glad to know there is a way around with GP tool. Thanks for sharing Frank! Agree it is challenging in terms of the layout. For the out-of-box widget, we may provide a few predefined layouts. Just a thought in my mind. Your feedback and requirements help drive our design!

Cole, The formatting and such can be tricky. It is relatively easy for items that have short values, for example in the report I link to in drop box above the values found in Latitude and Longitude in the report. The place where you run into issues is with long blocks of text that may need to wrap onto other pages, or when you start formating a table in the report. Esri has provided a fair amount of code snippets and such for maps books and such. We have utilized some of this code in our GP tools for our clients. Yes, we created a custom GP process, that way we could utilize the functionality of selecting one or many features in the WAB map so we could then produce reports on them. Over the next month we plan to build out our functionality of our GP to allows for expanding and contracting elements in the form. For example if someone leaves a value blank then there is no reason to have the PDF be so long. We are finding a fair number of our clients need this capability, so hope to expand upon what we have already learned.
