How are other GIS staff with Water Treatment Plant and distribution system responsibilities handling compliance sampling data?

I have recently been approached by our WTP staff to see what we can do with GIS software to help manage, analyze and expose the volume of historical and contemporary water quality sampling data they have that is part of their compliance sampling requirements. The bulk of the data is currently in a MS-Access DB. Is anyone using a COTS solution for this that is GIS enabled? Custom GIS solution?

Are you looking for a map where you can see the current sample info and historical info per site? Check out the SCADA processor app, I think you can leverage the same workflow for you samples.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reference on the SCADA processor app. I will check it out. Yes. That would be a great start for the folks at our WTP. Ultimately, they would also like to be able to select some current sampling records on a map and aggregate those up to some appropriate spatial level (e.g. subdivision, neighborhood, etc.) and initiate notification (SMTP, SMS, mailing list, etc.) on general water quality conditions to all residents/business in that area as opposed to notifying only the sampling sites themselves.

Take a look at one of the reporting apps, they will summarize data by geography and publish it to your organization. Here is one example:
