Free UC Recordings

Hi,

What about offering the UC recordings for FREE. There are so much excitement and new things to learn, and so many people to meet and so little time. AND it is very big deal to be able to come to the conference.

If ESRI would share UC recordings then the gap of the capabilities between the preliminary session stage and the smaller organization would potential shrink, and more good and talented people would become steward of the world.

The plenary videos are already online and I'm sure (some of) the recordings of technical session will soon follow.

I guess I should have been more specific I meant Technical Worksshops from all 4 days. Usual there are 400 r more of them, and yes some of them are being published over time but not all.

It's a third party that has a contract or permission to record the videos or the technical sessions, and there is a cost, but they are well done. for organizations, they do let you post the recordings on your organizations network to share (if you by that version) or and individual can purchasing stream (lower cost). I already was notified (yesterday) that the streaming versions were available, but when I went to check it out, their "newly designed" site was under maintenance.

to purchase, the site I used (pre-conference) was Welcome to ESRI Online | ESRI Online (and no, I do not work for esri or the Sound of Knowledge ...just a user that decided that it's well worth it to see more and share the tech sessions with staff).

Although many of the slides seem to (eventually) be posted, I think that is the only way to get the videos of the tech sessions from the UC, but as mentioned, the Dev Summit sessions are available http://video.esri.com/channel/2/events and, although they are several months old (0and some things will have changed), some topics will still be relevant.

re: the Sound of Knowledge, I already received my notification that the streaming videos are available, but I'm having issues and have (just) sent them a tech support question. I'll post again when I have an answer. Just for everyone's information if looking into purchasing (or if others have been able to get them with no issues).

Btw, they recommend using Safari and/or Chrome. I'm having issues on IE9, and login problems onChrome...both on my PC. again, just fyi, and I'll update when I no more.

EDIT: they responded in less than 10 minutes (reset my password so that wasn't an issue anymore....user error on my part I think). Chrome works just fine....IE9 and FireFox (38.0.5) do not. Have not tested on Safari.

EDIT #2: requires a browser that can read MP4 videos.

Hi Rebecca

If one pays for the online streaming option, do you know if you can download the videos? One can do so from Esri's http://video.esri.com/channels site? To me it may be worth it if I can download them and watch them again ... and again ... at a later stage. The tech sessions are a fantastic resource.

Matthew, based on past experience, a limited set of technical presentations should be made available on above link in about October.

My guess is downloading them is not an option (allowed) if only paying for the streaming option. But if you get the thumb drive version, you get the streaming and can copy the files from the thumb to a network drive to share with others in the organization (and "you" can still stream). To know for sure, you should contact them direct sales@sok-media.com

I got notification on Sunday that my drive shipped by mail, so expect to see it soon.

Hi Rebecca - am I gathering from this conversation that if we purchase access to the recordings that it is tied to a login... one specific user login? I'm trying to figure out the best way to share presentations with other staff.

From what I understand, from a licensing standpoint, the streaming is tied to one login. If you buy the thumb it is supposed to be able to be shared in an organization, i.e. one install on a network drive, no login required (except for your network drive, if needed, of course). But for official into, or to find out more, I would contact the sales email sales@sok-media.com I'm just a user too, but have found them valuable in the past, once they could be shared over the network.

Rebecca, the streaming service includes a download button.

I think if you have more than three users to share with, purchasing the recordings (at least every couple years) is a really good option. Source Of Knowledge (they have a new name this year I guess) does indeed produce a very fine product. We especially appreciate it as only 34 of us are allowed to attend the EsriUC.

I'm thinking the download button (on streaming page) is just for the mp3.??...sound, no sync'd slides (but I haven't messed with it much).

But if you see Karen's note from today

These are available for you to view at no charge.

So that is good news for those that can't afford to go or purchase.
