topic Exact distance location on a line in Transportation Questions

Hello all! I am looking for a way to click on a line and find out the milepost information for that exact location. This is for a rail project that runs on top of historic Union Pacific rail, so ideally, I would be able to click on a area on the line and see the actual milepost and the historic Union Pacific milepost, which will be different because they have different starting points.

It would also be preferable to not have to cut the lines into segments.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks

split line at vertices, then assign attributes to the segments would be the first thing that comes to mind

http://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/tool-reference/data-management/split-line-at-vertices.htm

Then there is the process of linear referencing...

http://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/tool-reference/linear-referencing/an-overview-of-the-linear-referencing-toolbox.htm
