output extent

Hi,

Having a little trouble with the output extent feature. I have a county map with density mapped on it. The density colors spill over the county line and I'd like to stop them from doing that. I assumed it was under the extent tab that I would be able to fix this but every drop down I've tried under that tab hasn't worked. Further, when I use some of the drop downs such as "Set the Extent to: The full retangular extent of all layers" then I can't see the density colors at all. When I change that drop down back to "the current setting of the layer" the colors don't come back.

Any advice?

What was the extent you used when you produced the density map assuming you used a tool in ArcToolbox to create it?

Set the extent to: The current setting of this layer (drop down)

and beneath it

full extent: of this layer (bubble)

Or I guess the "default" extent.

I don't think you want to set the extent. Unless I'm misinterpreting your question, what you want to try is setting the Clip Options in your Data Frame Properties.

1. Double click Layers in TOC to get to Data Frame Properties.

2. Under the Data Frame Tab...Clip Options set Clip to shape.

3. Specify Shape...Outline of Features

4. Select Layer: and Features: Visible.

This will clip all layers though. Use the exclude layers button to adjust.

That was it. I thought it was the "extent" that it covered. Thanks for the help!
