Creating a variable for points within a polygon

Hi all,

I have a series of points representing residents and polygons representing districts. I need to create a variable that represents the district the resident lives in. Is there somewhere ya'll can direct me to find out how to do this?

Are you saying that you need a column in the residents point which indicates which district they are in?

See the analysis tool box, overlays etc. Or spatial joins.

There are many ways to obtain this result. The most optimal way will depend on the software you have access to. Most logical choices are Desktop (as Neil Ayres mentioned), but in ArcGIS Online there are also dynamical ways (using Arcade) to get the district name where the point is located.
