Hello All,

These are good questions/comments.

There are many ways to integrate parcel data from many sources into the Parcel Fabric, including shapefiles/CAD files/etc.

One way to think about it is to build out a simple GP tool that creates a loading source for new parcels coming in (the same way that you migrated parcel data to the Fabric to begin with). If the data is a polygon shapefile, convert the polys to lines, validate the topology and load them to the Parcel Fabric as unjoined (or joined depending how well they fit) and go through the process of joining them (or not if you chose to load using joined parcels).

You can also simply copy-paste new line-work from any source into a new construction and build parcels...but you'll have to manually re-assign parcel attributes.

Chris Buscaglia

Local Government Solutions Team

I work for local City Government. Parcel data is maintained by the County Assessors. We use their Parcel data daily in a multitude of mapping applications and systems. I've been researching Parcel Fabrics for awhile now wondering whether it would be worth my time to migrate the data over to a Parcel Fabric just for some of the many benefits (historical parcels for starters).

My question is this:

If I take the Parcel data and migrate it into a Parcel Fabric, is there anything resembling a workflow or process to integrate future updates that are NOT from a Parcel Fabric?

I had considered the following:
1) taking one version of the Parcel data and making a shapefile of it minus the attributes, just graphics.
2) convert each update into an attribute-less shapefile
3) overlay the updated parcels on the previous version
4) find the changes
5) update the Parcel Fabric in OUR system with those changes
6) Update the attributes through a Model in Model Builder via Parcel numbers

But... the parcel numbers change due to Lot Splits and Combinations...
Kinda at a loss, hoping someone else deals with this and has a wonderful answer for me.

Brian,

Our City is going through the same exact process and has the same questions. I have spent the last week migrating data into the Tax Parcel Editing Staging Geodatabase, getting it ready for the Local Government Information Model Parcel Fabric.

This is a process I do not want to continue to do every week/month/quarter. I am currently in the process of developing a maintainence routine. I was able to talk to the County Assessors GIS Mapping group and they are able to give me attributes of changes that I can sort by date and the extent of our City.

Our questions now are how do we maintain parcel numbers since they are not generated by us. As long as we can figure this piece out assessment information should follow.

Sounds like this is the direction our City wants to go, and I'm sure both our City's are not the only ones with these questions across the nation.

I hope someone responds soon with some similar experience because we are plowing ahead.

Toby

Getting updates from the Assessor Mapping that shows where parcel geometries have changed is a good method for keeping up your parcels. They usually catalog the record document that caused the change. You can use this to relate to the parcel
changes .shp files to keep track of the ownership and boundary changes in your layer or parcel fabric.

Also, you can work toward setting up a GIS data share consortium with your county.

Good luck, have fun!

Greg
