topic Zonal summary tables?? in Spatial Statistics Questions

I have a polygon parcel based landuse dataset. And a zonal polygon dataset. I would like to know a simple way to generate summary tables that can show (distinct landuse code "count" per zone), (distinct landuse code "area" hectares per zone). Is there a tool that can do this?? Or is it back to excel and pivot tables???

I have managed to find that running a spatial join then running spatial statistics gets me pretty much what I need.
