i wouldn't say it is all doom-and-gloom, see

which will provide most code change requirements.

ArcMap 10.1 Pre-Release is using 2.7

The final release of 10.1 will include Python 2.7.2.

Definitely 2.7.x, which version of 2.7 will be final I don't know.

Edit: Question. Why wouldn't it ship with the latest version of Python (2.7.3), since ArcGIS hasn't been officially released yet? Were the differences too minor?

Really just a matter of timing. Lock-down on ArcGIS 10.1 came before Python 2.7.3 had its final release.

Any more news on when, exactly, 10.1 is coming out? I want to get started with 10.1, but would rather install only once if it's only going to be a week or two.

A month ago at the Southeast User Conference they said June 7th or 8th.

Hey all,
Is there a list of changes to the Python syntax from 10 to 10.1?

I found the lists of "what's new", but I'm interested in what's happening with the previously existing code.

There were lots of little niggling changes in the syntax from 9.3 to 10. For example, suddenly ArcGIS Toolbox tool calls were case sensitive where they had never been before and unluckily for me, it was different from how I'd written all of my code.

It would be great to get a list of these types of things, instead of having to discover them one by one.

No new large syntax changes this time around, just new functions.
