Is it me or is the current ESRI forum(s) a pale rendition of the former glory of the ArcScripts forum in terms of the volume of scripting solutions readily available and number of new scripts/modules/etc. posted daily?

One of the drawbacks of ArcGIS.com is that there doesn't seem to be a good category for scripts. The help page listing the items you can upload seems to focus on finished items, like addins.

It's definitely more difficult to find things on the new ArcGIS.com than in ArcScripts. I've gotten many emails from people asking if I've updated some of my tools and I have to point them to the exact spot. I've noticed that the tools on ArcGIS.com I've posted are getting downloaded at a much slower rate than on ArcScripts.

Since the demise of ArcScripts I have stopped submitting code. Compared to ArcScripts, the new system (in all its various reincarnations) is terrible. Full stop.

I *think* this is the current "solution": http://www.arcgis.com/home/search.html?q=Python%20OR%20arcpy&t=content. Note the results related to Python (the snake not the language) habitat distribution...

These are sad times indeed...

What I would like to see is a dedicated arcpy/python script repository site totally seperate from all "apps, maps, and snaps" smorgasbord that usable Python code is obscured within ... The could even call it "ArcpyScripts" 🙂

I'm with you guys. The thumbnail search results is a terrible design. It lacks a basic level of providing correct results. For a company to push ArcPy as hard as it does, it sure seems strange to leave the user community out in the rain.

Will people move their stuff (again)? Who knows...

I personally won't be migrating to ArcGIS.com until they provide a "Scripts and Tools" link so you can find the new stuff quickly instead of "searching" for them.

As a quick test - Does my recent share work?

It does! Installed on 10.1 very nicely. Very timely considering that Bing Maps are being discontinued. Replaced with Esri imagery which is even lower resolution in my country. Google imagery is much better everywhere. Cities are sourced from aerial imagery.

Are we all expected to build AddIns for publishing? It does work well for beginners, but not hackers who want to share techniques.

I tried a search on "Python" and got a lot of studies on the real snake - but no code!
