Good day from a new MapSAR student in Oregon. I'm guessing this is will be an ignominious entry into the forum, as I have what is probably a trivial question.

As I work through the exercises provided on mapsar.net, I have run into a repeated problem with the first task in Chapter 8 (on page 177 of Using GIS for Wildland...). I edited the attribute table for 'Operation_Periods,' but left the '@#Period*' and 'End Date/Time' columns blank, stopped editing and saved edits, and was able to Update_Domains successfully, but the aforementioned values remained <Null>, and didn't auto-populate. If I go back and manually add values to either of those columns, I get the following error:

I tried trashing the entire exercise directory and re-downloading, but encountered the same problem. Suggestions?
I'm running ArcMap 10.0 in Win7, and have generally had good functionality (except the occaisional lag due to a non-optimized laptop).

Hi Erik,

If what Vanessa suggested doesn't work, you can view all the fields in the Attribute Table to find out which one is not populating. Do this by:

Opening the Operations_Period Attribute Table
Click on Table Options, located in the upper right corner of the table
Click on Restore Defalut Field Order.

This will display all the hidden fields in the table. At this point you will be able to complete any empty fields.

Many thanks to you both for your prompt replies, and apologies that I didn't seem to stay engaged. In reality, I've been fighting to get back to working on this, as I really enjoy fiddling with MapSAR, but am sadly lacking in technical expertise.

At any rate, I tried both of your solutions, in order, and it didn't solve the problem. I plowed ahead to the next series, however, but am still getting the following error message when updating domains:
