Add points to the edit sketch option does not become accessible? How do I change that

Attempting to digitize scanned image, lakes went fine (polygons), with houses selected- the point edit tool or function does not become available. I assume that the feature data being read by the editor is not correct but not sure where to go from here. I cannot find a way to add construction tools, even though I did find the file for the point function.

Did you digitize any feature and select it then right click and choose Edit Vertices from menu?

I was able to digitize the lakes, but looks like when created the new personal database I neglected to select out the correct feature types for the feature classes I was creating. And apparently this is an unforgiving sin in ArcGIS, looks like I will have to start over again.

Define the correct shape type of Shape file or feature class is very important before start digitizing .

That is not in ArcGIS only but in any GIS software. That is GIS basics.
