I would say the easiest way to solve this is to make your paths relative, an option for the mxd under file > properties.

I need to update 5 map documents, after copying or renaming it to another folder it asks for data repair which breaks the workflow in the modelbuilder. Is there any solution other than manual data repairing the source? how to update and repair the data source using script or tools?
