Bridging skills gap

Hello All,

My name is Pornima and I live in Sydney Australia. I am trying to get back into workforce after a break of four years. I have hands-on experience working with ArcGIS and QGIS from my previous work profile. I am taking few online courses to bridge my skills gap in GIS specialization, Python programming and Business Analytics.

Can someone suggest what all skills are required for becoming a GIS Analyst?

Hello Pornima,

You could check the Esri Training Catalog.

If you have experience with ArcMap, you could start with the different learning paths (I have just mentioned a few).

1. ArcGIS Pro Fundamentals

2. ArcGIS Online Fundamentals

3. Esri ArcGIS Desktop Associate Certification 19-001 (Esri Technical Certification will give you a boost in your career).

4. ArcPy Essentials

5. ArcGIS Technology for Spatial Data Science

*If you are currently working with an organization which is under maintenance with Esri, you can access the "Requires Maintenance" content as well. Else you could get an ArcGIS for Personal Use subscription to access the same. This subscription also comes with Esri products like ArcGIS Desktop Advanced (ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro) with multiple extensions, and ArcGIS Online subscription with 100 credits.

I would also suggest you to look at Learn ArcGIS and Esri MOOCs.

You might want to keep the Esri Documentation link handy.

Thank you so much for replying!

I am taking few MOOC courses for ArcGIS Pro by ESRI currently which has a 21 days trial period.

What I would also like to know is that is there any way that I can work on some real-life projects rather completing just guided projects in the courses. I came across a site named GeoCorps where one can work on a project on a pro-bono basis but I am not sure how it works.

Is there anyone you has worked on just projects with any non-profit organisations?
