Need help regarding using ArcGIS for geological maps

Hello!

I am an economic geology student studying for my master in Japan. I am using ArcGIS 10.2 to digitize geological map for my thesis. I have already digitized all elements of the map and now I am trying to symbolize all the layers in an accepted geological standard. I am wondering if somebody could help me with followings:

How to label the geological units with codes that the same codes appear in the legend?
How to dynamically add more information to legend ( for instance, if we symbolize the geological unit with data from one column of the attribute table and we still want to add data from others columns of the attribute to legend).
I am also looking for a textbook or any manuals that could help to know more about application of ArcGIS in geology. Please kindly recommend somethings.
