Missing labels

I doing a storm water map and need to label pipe diameters. At least 1/3 of the labels don't show up.

Look's basically like this:

|-----2'-------|--------------|--------1'--------|

The person looking at the map doesn't know if the one between is 2' or 1'.

|-----2'-------|--------------|--------------|--------------|--------1'--------|

The change can be at any of the unlabeled segments.

There are no missing diameters. When you click on an unlabeled one, you get all its attributes.

Each line is a polyline.

The ArcMap version is 9.3.1 and Maplex version is 9.3

Hello,
There are several things to make sure of when you aren't getting any labels:

- Check the label class is enabled in the label manager
- Check the label expression contains the correct fields and/or text
- Check the attribute table for the entries of any fields in your expression
- Check other properties which could cause the label to disappear. e.g. remove duplicates, min feature size.
You can tell the difference by seeing if the label is unplaced (checking on the 'View Unplaced Labels' button on the labeling toolbar) the label will not appear as unplaced if it has been removed by a property.

No Check - The label does not appear as unplaced. I�??ve been playing with the settings and writing down the settings I try so that I don�??t try them again. Regardless the setting, the same placed ones stay placed and the same unplaced ones stay unplaced. I even tried Street and Unambiguous

The attachment might add some in site and also make sure that what you are asking me to check is what I checked. (I'm a visual thinker)

Ok, Thanks for the information. There is one more thing to check. The SQL query in the label manager. Assuming this doesn't exclude the features without labels then you are experiencing a bug with the software and should report it via your local Esri tech suppport.

Maplex often does not place labels even when you "Never Remove". I have more success with the regular labeling engine. I've also given up on trying to make dynamic labeling most of the work for me. Maybe that works on very simplistic maps? I same my self a lot of time and trouble by creating annotations and placing them manually.
Be ware, Maplex also does not export all unplaced annotations.

Labelling Options -> Line Connection -> un-tick the �??Enable connection of line segments into continuous features�?�
