Overflow annotation window greyed out

I have created annotation for a feature class, in the mxd (not geodatabse annotation). The overflow annotation window popped up when I first created it, and I closed it at that time. When I go to editing windows, the overflow annotation window is greyed out - doesn't matter if I start an editing session, it continues to be greyed out. Am I missing something since this annotation window has been moved under the editing tool bar? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Hi Neala, did you check the "convert unplaced labels" box when you created your animation?
