Hi Dayton,

For a small community, you should use the large scale template - which can be found here:
http://resources.arcgis.com/gallery/file/community-basemap-ttg?page=1&

In addition to the template, this gallery (Page 2 and onwards) also contains a number of tutorials to help aid you in the creation of your community map. The tutorials provide you with information about how to migrate the data and cache the map.

Another great resource, if you're just starting, is the ArcGIS Resource Center:
http://help.arcgis.com/en/communitybasemap/10.0/help/index.html

Here, you will also find some more useful information about constructing a map using the Community Map Template.

Cheers,

Nelson

For a smaller community should I use the small scale template or does it matter?
Is there comprehensive documentation to use with these templates. I have seen some but cannot seem to get far?
I am wanting to get away from USGS as base map. It appears that I can use Arc products such as the street map as my basemap. I have my parcel, etc data ready to go in shp files.
I have aerials but can I use google earth products instead as they are always more up to date.
Thx!
🙂
