Exporting map to pdf (ArcMap 10.3)

Hey Community,

after the installation from ArcMap 10.3 the option export map to pdf does not work (properly) anymore. Even with the smallest test project the printed pdf document has missing text, labels, legend, .... Have you faced the same problems. Exporting to jpg, tiff, png works fine.

As a workaround you can print with the pdf creator. This works so far.

Hi Lutz.

I'm in the process of testing Desktop 10.3 before rolling it out. I've just tried exporting a few reasonably complex maps to PDF which include graphics, text, legend, labels, pictures etc and all have come out fine.

I'm testing on Windows XP 32 bit (although I realise this is no longer supported) and have uninstalled 10.2.2 and installed 10.3.

So, I got an answer from Esri. This is a known bug (BUG-000083717). Certain regional settings will throw an error and fail to to print labels. The english settings are ok ;-))

For example in regional settings ITA you have this problem. This happens if you have fonts in layout but also if you have a basemap because it has the copyright (fonts..) or if you have label or annotation (level of map). A workaround If you haven't basemap with copyright and label and annotation (level of map) you can select all textbox and set in object graphics: 35095 - Convert EPS, PDF, and AI text to graphic objects while exporting

Dear all,

we're seeing the same problem with the BE-regional settings. When changed to the English settings the problem is solved.

Printing to pdf with pdf creator is too time consuming for some customers.

A possible workaround I propose is to export to EPS and use GSView for the creation ofthe pdf.

BUG-000083717
- In ArcMap 10.3.0.4206, exporting a map as a PDF under certain regional
settings will throw an error and fail to print labels.

The bug lists the following language affected so far:

Lithuanian
(Lithuania)

Polish
(Poland)

French
(France)

Dutch
(Netherlands)

Czech
(Czech Republic)

Italian
(Italy)

Norwegian
(Norway)

There is a note with the bug that mentions that changing the decimal symbol to '.' in
regional settings and then exporting the pdf from ArcMap works fine.

How ridiculous, export to PDF would be a basic function that you'd think they would get right. Lucky I am in an English speaking country!

Hi all!

I am french and a have the same thing. The ESRI office support of Paris gave me an alternative solution: create the PDF via a python script. Here's mine below.

mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument(r"CURRENT")
path = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(0)
file = arcpy.GetParameterAsText(1)
all = path + file
arcpy.AddMessage(path)
arcpy.AddMessage(all)
# df = arcpy.mapping.ListDataFrames(mxd, "Your data frame")[0]
arcpy.mapping.ExportToPDF(mxd,
    out_pdf=tout,
#    r »U:\your pdf path\pdf.pdf",
#   df_export_width=1600,
#   df_export_height=1200,
    resolution=300)

This script is used in a script tool with two parameters (path and file). So i must set "\" before the fine name. Can you help me improve my variable "all" please?
