I am running ArcGIS 10 and am trying to produce a schematic of a railway section using geographic data.
I have run through the quick start tutorials but I seem to produce zilch when I try to create a diagram.
I have even tried to produce a schematic from a few digitised lines that I know are topologically correct but still nothing.

Am I missing something? Is there some magic setting that I haven't pushed?

Joking aside any help would be greatly appreciated as I have some members of staff manually creating schematics and it is taking along time.

Many Thanks
Claire

PS - I have uploaded a pic of my basic network to see if anyone can see anything obvious.

OK - things are moving forward - Hurrrah, I have managed to produce a schematic.

Now - I have some track quality data that is plotted using linear referencing techniques to the rail line in a seperate layer. How do I get this to show on my schematic?

Thnks
Claire

Glad you were able to get a diagram to generate. There are some other video tutorial available to help get you started:

http://resources.arcgis.com/en/communities/schematics/01n600000012000000.htm

Now for the linear referencing...this can be tricky. Schematics has the concept of a NodeOnLink and a SubLink. Both of these require configuration to work correctly. Look them up in the help system for more information:

http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/What_is_a_schematic_feature_class/004z0000000p000000/
http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#/What_is_a_schematic_feature_class/004z0000000p000000/

So it typically requires a custom query schematic feature class to retrieve the linear reference data related to the features that are being displayed on the diagram, then some attribute configuration to make them display correctly.
