topic Print legend issues in LocalMaps NZ Questions

Heya, I am finding if there are too many layers ticked to include in the legend when printing, some of the layers won't be included, usually only one or two will come through. I'm assuming it is because they are not fitting on the print layout page... but if I turn off some layers to not be include in the legend it will not honour my selection and still print layers I haven't ticked.

Has anybody else experienced this issue? Is there a way to make the legend extend on to a second page if there are too many legend items?

You have a lot of options to configure this:

Adjust font size (preset or automatically)

Adjust legend size

Turn off layers not visible within map extent

Adjust layers to remove the number

Split legend (i.e. consider creating a second legend within the map, in addition to one within your layout elements. Common for when a layer such vegetation or soil species is very long and be delineated)

Reposition legend (give it more space in your layout)

Allowing legends to go into more than one column

Change the fitting strategy or word wrapping

Lots of information available on all these options:

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/layouts/work-with-a-legend.htm

https://www.esri.com/arcgis-blog/products/arcgis-pro/mapping/tips-and-tricks-for-working-with-legends-in-arcgs-pro/

https://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/235056/making-legend-items-start-in-new-column-in-arcgis-pro

I'd recommend putting some time aside to play with ALL the ArcGIS Pro legend items. Read the entire documentation and test each configuration option. It's the best way to understand the legend interactions. Makes it a lot easier to overcome a specific challenge - you'll know what options are available that may help.

To get the legend to extent on to another page will need use a custom print service. This is mentioned at the bottom of this page - https://localmapsdocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/userguide23/pages/80019457/Print+Widget

There's a custom print tool you can use - https://github.com/eaglegis/ExportWebMap

Sorry I should have been more clear, I was referring to printing from LocalMaps, but not using a custom print service. Just using the default one that comes with LocalMaps.

Thanks, I'll need to go back and try getting a custom print service set up. Might have to bump that up the to do list 🙂
