We’re currently working on a community site that will allow users of the community to engage with public data via a custom app, which would provide features such as real time feeds, access to analytics features and surveys via mobile apps. How do we deploy this to a public cloud leveraging enterprise technology solutions?

Hi Emmanuel,

Your description is a bit too vague and generalized, it would help if you could be more specific on your requirements - so we can help respond better. Based on what you posted:

You could use ArcGIS Hub, which is a solution meant for community engagement and you should look into ArcGIS Survey123, which enables smart forms - which can be completed via mobile devices.

You'll need to be more specific here. What is the use case? Setting up a Hub site will allow you to reference real-time feeds from the ArcGIS Living Atlas. If you want to share your own real-time feeds, please take a look at ArcGIS GeoEvent Server.

FYI, ArcGIS Online is a cloud SAAS solution. It's not clear what you're asking with this statement.

Thank you Derek.

This seems like a good idea. However, we do not expect most out our users to have licenses or logins at this point. Also, if we’re to go with ArcGIS Hub, I guess we’d be needing an organizational account for ArcGIS Online. By public cloud I mean AWS and the likes. If we were to go with AGOL, how would we scale the AGOL SaaS offering to support the storage of data and deployment of custom applications? Can we link both cloud services to support the apps and data? What kind of licensing are we looking at here?

Yes, you would need an ArcGIS Online organization.

AGOL would scale (as needed) to store your items behind-the-scenes. That's what makes SaaS easy, Esri takes care of the infrastructure for you. In terms of custom apps, AGOL offers many options to your configure your own apps with the configurable app templates and ArcGIS Web AppBuilder. If you have custom apps built from scratch (for example, using the ArcGIS API for JavaScript) then you would host these apps on your own web server - but they could use resources from AGOL.
