We are currently doing a high availability installation of ArcGIS Enterprise and keep running into a few installation issues with the joining of the portals. We are using an ArcGIS Enterprise Advanced License to license both portals but keep getting the following error:

The two machines are licensed differently. Ensure both machines use the same level of licensing

The only problem here is that we are using the EXACT same license on both machines which used the exact same setup. Could anyone offer some suggestions on why this might be happening as well as assist in helping chart a solution for the same?

Full Disclosure: I'd asked this on the discussion space but was advised to try the query here for better results.

Did you have any other version of the software on the machine, which may have created a folder for a previous version? How many lines for Portal are in the keycodes file? You may see two if you're on 10.5 or 10.5.1, but they should be clearly for 10.5, (ex. portal1_25,105....)

Thanks for your reply Jonathan. This is a brand new installation on both machines - Two Windows 2012 Server machines. There are 2 lines for the the keycodes file: One with licensing for Portal at Level 1 (30 users) and Level 2 (%0 users). Both for 10.5.

If you're sure that the licenses are identical between the two portals, I suggest you reach out to Technical Support to have them investigate.

Hi there,

Not sure if people are still having this issue but I struck it yesterday. The cause of this error (if you license is the same) for me was that the machines clocks were out. One was UTC the other NZ time - so the licenses weren't the same even though they were. Once both system clocks were NZ time the portals joined successfully.

Thanks,

Fraser
