topic Projection Coordinate System for China Datasets??? in Geoprocessing Questions

Dear Helpers,

I have some datasets for a part of Northeastern China. These datasets are Features (Points, Lines and Polygons shape-files) and Raster (mainly DEM grids).

These datasets, however, have either no coordination system or different geographical coordination system. Before going in any further application I have to unify one Projected Coodination System for these different datasets.

What is the suitable Projected Coordination System (or Systems) to be used for datasets in China?

I tried it using the UTM: WGS_1984_UTM_Zone_8N, it does not work and I get this error message:
A locator with this name does not exist
Failed to execute (Project).

Could you help?

Thanks

WGS_1984_UTM_Zone_8N is over Yukon Canada
http://www.dmap.co.uk/utmworld.htm
which could be part of the problem. also, you can only project data that already has a defined projection, is that the case?
