I have created a geoprocessing script tool that accepts a feature class and folder as inputs. When I add the tool ArcToolbox in ArcMap and try and drag a feature class from the table of contents I get an "Invalid drop item" pop-up with the message, one or more dropped items were invalid and will not be added to the control."

For me the solution was to change the Data Type in the Parameters of the script to "Feature Layer".

In ArcToolbox, Right click on the model or script, choose Properties, click on the Parameters tab, and then for the affected parameter, set the Data Type to 'Feature Layer'.

If you want to run the tool on feature classes and stand alone tables try to use the data type - Table View.
