Assign polygon feature to closest point feature

I have a point feature class which represents climate stations and I have a polygon feature class for counties. To determine which climate station fits best to a county I would like to know for every polygon what point is the nearest. Does someone has an idea which tool I can use or another method to solve this problem?

without seeing your map there are a number of options... not an exhaustive list but..

Spatial Join—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop all license levels

Near—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop advanced

Generate Near Table—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop advanced

and even some of the overlay tools may give you what you want (ie intersect)

Also

You could start with converting County polygons to points Feature To Point—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop

Then use Near tool between the County points and Climate Stations Near—Help | ArcGIS for Desktop .
