Merging more than one shapefile

Hello folks, I am trying to merge more than one shapefile (8 in fact) and I have tried doing this using arc toolbox>general>merge however I can merge three together but when I try to do more it fails on me. As a side note, I do not need any attribute information merged, just the spatial polygons themselves but I have a feeling the fail might be relating to something to do with the attributes.

Try the UNION tool instead:

Thanks for your help, although with the license we have we can only put two features at a time with union. Obviously we could just do two at a time until all 8 are done but was just wondering if there was a quicker way for the future.

What error are you getting?

The Merge Tool Should work. Try saving the output as a File Geodatabase Feature Class.

May be the other shape files are not defined coordinate system or have another one.
