Upgrading Enterprise Geodatabase from 10

Hello all,

I have a SQL geodatabase in SQL Server 2022 with 2019 compatibility at geodatabase version 10. So a very old geodatabase version. We are using ArcMap 10.8.2 and ArcGIS Pro 3.2.2 with ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1 with Portal.

I'm looking for upgrade advice:

From previous community research it looks like I need to use ArcGIS Pro 2.9 to upgrade the geodatabase version to 10.9.1.2.9 to work with ArcMap 10.8.2. Is that right?

Can I go straight from 10 to 10.9.1.2.9 or do I have to do some in-between version upgrading?

Any other thoughts or suggestions?

It looks like from v10.0 (any patch level) you will need to upgrade to 10.3 first; https://desktop.arcgis.com/en/arcmap/10.3/manage-data/gdbs-in-sql-server/upgrade-geodatabase-sqlserver.htm

Then move to Pro 2.8.x: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/2.8/help/data/geodatabases/manage-sql-server/upgrade-geodatabase-sqlserver.htm

Then you can go to Pro 2.9.x: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/2.9/help/data/geodatabases/manage-sql-server/upgrade-geodatabase-sqlserver.htm

Because you are so many versions behind, you would have to make 2 - 3 jumps. You may be able to do this with another ArcMap client version instead of Pro, but would recommend lots of research and planning to make this drastic of a change.

@AndreaB_ - if possible, it might just be easier if you create a new empty SQL Server Geodatabase with ArcGIS Pro 3.2.2, and then reload the data from the old 10.0 geodatabase into the new geodatabase.

Thank you both! Really great info @George_Thompson. Yeah, @MarceloMarques , that thought had crossed our minds also. I'll be trying that in a dev environment and see if that works. We would have to put the permissions back in place but I think our DBA can help with that part of it.
