Is there a way to run a script that creates a new version of an enterprise geodatabase when a user starts an ArcMap session? And for that matter, can I add something that will reconcile and post any edits made to the 'child' version and the parent version upon closing the session?

Haven't found anything yet to dispute your answer Dan. Working through a solution to reconcile, post, compress etc. I'd like to simply delete the versions after the reconcile and post, which can be done as one of the parameters ( Reconcile Versions—Help | ArcGIS Desktop , with_delete). After all that re-create the version & set permissions; shouldn't be too tough. I was just looking to see if I could get the user to create the version to establish ownership, but having the administive user create it and set it to public access will work.
