Can I add/delete fields from a versioned table?

I'm using ArcGIS 10.2.1. For some reason, I had it in my head that I needed to unversion a table in order to add or delete or change the size of fields in a versioned table. Then I had to version the table again after making the changes. Is that necessary?

It is not necessary to unversion a GDB before making the changes you indicated. However, make sure you are making the changes as the database owner.

Only one thing to change in the answer above....it should be data owner and not database owner..
