topic Editing In Catalog is Possible? in Geodatabase Questions

I did something seemingly impossible today. I edited in ArcCatalog. I threw together a simple model, Delete Features on a feature class in an enterprise GDB, and Append some new data into the same feature class. Simple. When the model was done running, I noticed that the field headers were white and to my amazement I was able to edit the tabular data for any feature class in that database from catalog. If I disconnected from that database and reconnected the edit session remained open. Upon closing Catalog the edit session closed without saving any edits, including the delete/append. Ive never seen this behavior before.
