We currently use SDE with versioned editing. Our installation was done several years ago. I know that there have been many changes and performance enhancements since that time and some of the suggested installation parameters may have changed. I am thinking of creating a new geodatabase and transferring our existing data to it. My question is, is there a way to migrate users without having to manually create new connections, repair map data sources, etc.?

Hi Collin,

Can you provide some more information?

1. What type of database are you using (i.e. SQL Server, Oracle)?

2. Are you migrating to a new geodatabase in the same instance, or on a new server with a new instance?

If you are using SQL Server, the following article may be helpful:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/918992

Something to keep in mind--

If its the same instance, you can't have the new sde gdb use the same name, because:

- you can't have two databases with the same name on one SQL Server instance

- you can't rename an existing sde gdb and connect to it from ArcCatalog

Asrujit is right. You can upgrade your sde geoDB if you are upgrading sqlserver from the 2008 to the 2012 or 2014 without rename it. Then use arccatalog and upgrade the DB, if you have changed arcgis version.
