Tracking Usage stats in FGDB or SDE

I want to track how many unique users are using specific feature classes. We currently have the data deployed as layer files with source data that is in a file geodatabase, but could move the data to our SDE if there is a solution there. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is this possible?

When you say you wish to track unique user using specific feature classes are you referring to editing them?

Hi,

No, I am not referring to editing them. The feature classes are read-only. We have created a new reference layer for our users and are interested in know how many of the users have transitioned to using the new reference layer and how frequently they access it.
