It is wonderful to meet you! Your capstone project sounds fascinating. Site suitability analysis is such a powerful application of geospatial analytics, especially for something as critical as seismic monitoring.

The transition from academic work to real world deployment is an exciting phase. Since I am based in the Springfield area, it is always great to connect with others in Missouri who are passionate about GIS and data science.

I am curious to hear what inspired you to focus on seismic sensors for your project. Was there a specific event or interest that led you to this topic?

Good luck as you finish up your final semester at Mizzou!

Hello everyone!

My name is Prisha. Currently, I am pursuing my master's degree in data science and analytics with an emphasis in geospatial analytics at the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou).

As I wrap up my final semester, I have been working on my capstone project. The project focuses on analyzing networks of nodal seismometers, which are small, portable sensors that can be deployed in large numbers to monitor earthquakes. It involves a site suitability analysis to identify potential locations for nodal seismometers. I have been learning a lot throughout the process!

I would love to hear about any projects you have been working on! Please feel free to connect with me here or on LinkedIn.

Hello! Nice to meet you as well!

I chose to focus on seismic sensors for this project because I previously completed an internship with the USGS Earthquake Science Center. The internship was an amazing experience, and I really enjoyed working with my mentors. I am continuing to work with my USGS mentors for this project to help support their research.

Glad to connect with you!

Hi Prisha! That sounds like a really interesting capstone. Using GIS to help determine where seismometers should be deployed is such a cool application of spatial analysis. With my background in environmental science, I’m always intrigued by projects that connect geospatial tools with earth systems and monitoring.

I’m currently studying GIS as well, and it’s been really exciting seeing how the technology can support so many different kinds of research and fieldwork. Your project sounds like a great way to wrap up the program.

I’ll definitely connect with you on LinkedIn too, would love to follow along with your journey.
