It’s inspiring to see how you’ve blended software engineering with GIS. For someone just starting out, what advice would you give for identifying the skills or projects that best translate into a GIS-focused career?

Hello all,

My name is Asher Dale and I am a GIS Developer at Map I.T. LLC, a leading GIS consulting firm based in Charleston, South Carolina. Much of my work involves Digital Twins and ArcGIS Indoors, with a heavy emphasis on workflow automation using Python and C#. My background is in software engineering, and I'm looking forward to continuing to apply my coding skill to the world of GIS.

If interested, feel free to check out my latest post on the official YPN blog to read about my journey from Software Engineer to GIS Developer: https://community.esri.com/t5/esri-young-professionals-network-blog/from-software-engineer-to-gis-developer-a-year-of/ba-p/1671216

My journey is the exact opposite of yours (GIS to Dev), and I’m always looking for ways to strengthen my programming side. Since you’ve bridged that gap, do you have any tips or insights for me as I grow my dev skills?
