Error adding hosted feature service to web map in Portal

Hey all,

I have a Portal install (10.3), federated, with a hosting server. Everything seems to be working great. I created 2 hosted feature services using shapefiles that I uploaded (hosted feature services were created during the shapefile upload process). I then went in and edited the hosted feature services to turn on editing and tracking capabilities and saved them - all OK so far.

My issue stems now when I try to add the 2 hosted feature layers to my Web Map. I search for layers, find them and click "Add" (doesn't matter which one I try), they both return "The layer, "xxxxx", cannot be added to the map." in a popup window. The "Add" link in the layers list then changes to a greyed-out "unavailable" text. I can refresh the map page and the "Add" link comes back, but still no luck.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? My thanks!

I have had that problem in two ways, neither of which is like yours but maybe this will give you some ideas:

1. Our Portal is set to be HTTPS only. If I "Add Item" and point to an http map service and then try to add it to a map, I can get that error.

2. When I have zipped up a file.gdb and gone through "Add Item", I have on occasion pulled that error.

It is related to the Display Expression not being a Text field.

Thanks Paul, your first hint matches the work around I managed to sort out. Instead of adding the layer to the map, I had to add layer from web and put in the service's REST URL (and down to the layer /0). Our Portal is also an HTTPS only, and I guess (I couldn't find a way to confirm) it was trying to add the layer over an HTTP URL? It's the only explanation I can think of at this point...

The other thing I forgot to mention: if you were using a browser other than IE, try using IE.

There are known issues with Chrome and Firefox.

Others have also reported that iIf on Win 10 and IE gives issues, try Edge.

Is your AGS box setup for http/https? I have had lots of issues with being able to add an HTTP layer like you did and it will show up on a map the first time. But when I come back to the map later, I get your error message about unable to add...

I did take a Dev Portal out of HTTPS only mode but after setting it up for HTTPS only, taking it out creates its own issues. Mostly web adaptor related, I think.
