Group sharing not listing any existing groups - ArcGIS Enterprise 11.1

After a recent upgrade from 10.9 to 11.1, there is a situation where an item cannot be shared to groups: no groups are listed.

Just says: (see attached image)

0 - NaN of 0 groups

portal Index shows all groups.

However all groups are available. The groups are listed when a site hub is shared.

Any suggestions what is wrong?

Hi Thomas,

Do you see the groups in the portal sharing REST API under user groups? The Portal Sharing REST URL usually is https://FQDN/portal/sharing/rest. When you log in as an admin, do you see the groups there?

There is a patch for this at 11.1 - https://support.esri.com/en-us/patches-updates/2023/portal-for-arcgis-11-1-sharing-patch

The recently released security patch also covers some fixes made by the aforementioned patch:

Essentially, please make sure your deployment is fully patched by using the "Check For Enterprise updates" tool on the machine.

Hi @A_Wyn_Jones we haven't installed any patches yet: I see 4 patches available for portal 11.1

We have a HA deployment with 2 portal VMs and got couple of questions:

1. What is the order of the patch installation?

2. Do I need to install all patches listed below?

2. Do I need the validation and repair tool run first?

3. If Security 2024 update 1 patch is applied, then is it necessary to apply Sharing Patch (as it is also included in the security 2024 patch)?

Hi @Thomas_Puthusserry,

The order of patch installation is done for you via the "Install All Patches" button.

You need to run the validation and repair tool first before clicking Install All Patches

The sharing patch will be installed before the Security 2024 patch

You can automate this patching using the command line tools provided by Server, Portal or Datastore:

https://enterprise.arcgis.com/en/server/latest/install/windows/check-for-software-patches-and-updates.htm

Keep in mind patching requires downtime of the component being patched.

Hi @A_Wyn_Jones Thanks for the tip. I have tried to recreate this in another instance which is upgraded to 11.1; however the issue with groups (BUG-000158232 - Members are not able to share items with groups through the ArcGIS Enterprise portal when owning or managing more than 29 groups configured to only allow owners and managers to contribute content) could not be reproduced. The idea was that, if I could reproduce this then apply the patches and then see whether that fixes the issue. As such I am not sure this bug is causing the issue I am facing.

Have you installed the latest Security patch on that instance too?

There's BUG-000158232 (again) and BUG-000164118 addressed in this patch:

If you have it all up to date - please raise with Esri tech support. Would be interesting to know if it's specifically your account!

Updated the patches as part of the Application Display issue and that has resolved this issue. It could have been the bug: BUG-000158232 which caused this. However the 11.1 sharing patch is not listed anymore (perhaps integrated with the application display patch now).
