HTML link in custom attribute display configuration

My working configuration :

custom expression added ({expression\expr2}):

configured attribute pop-up:

My NON-working configuration:

{expression\expr1}

configured attribute pop up:

returns "expr2 test:"

Why does the working configuration recognize it as a link, but the NON-working configuration not recognize the pop up item as a link?

Try removing the parenthetical's from your file name

I don't have permissions to change the files in this directory. The way I have it configured, would return this url: https://prodmaps.ne.gov/NDOTrow/73-1(1007).pdf , which works fine. Can you elaborate on why the parenthesis might be mucking it up, before I make a request to change any file names in the directory. thanks.
