      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Subject:&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Linking a GIS layer with an Excel file.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;I am looking into linking an excel file with a GIS layer so the user can open the Excel file and update the date (month/day/year) and &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;the GIS layer will reflect data for that specific day.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;The GIS layer contains a field for Date (month/day/year).&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Thanks,&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;- but Maplex's solution is free.. Or if it's a point dataset you could just ensure that the spreadsheet has two fields for X and Y, load the spreadsheet into ArcMap, display XY so you can view the points. When the user updates the spreadsheet the the points in ArcMap are also updated but as previously mentioned you can't have the spreadsheet and mxd open at the same time or you will get locking issues.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
