topic NITF Slow Performance Issues in Data Management Questions

I have noticed a significant performance issue when using NITF raster files in a 9.3.1 environment. They tend to load into a new map session very slow, and also pan/zoom very slowly as well. I have since patched my system with 9.3.1 SP 1 and 2, which improved performance somewhat, but there is still a very noticeable drag.

Also, a lot of my NITF imagery downloaded from NGA's WARP system appears very dark. Normally I would try computing statistics and performing a histogram stretch, but this does not always work on the NITF format. Using the standard brightness/contrast tools ends up washing out the image as its brightened.

Any suggestions for the above two issues?

Thank you,
