Selected feature or object to existing shape file

I have question about ArcMap.
I have 2 polygon layers in ArcMap window dataset. I want to choose
from one layer some polygons and send them direct to another layer
with attributtes. On Arcview 3.2a version there was a tool, that
changes choosed objects to another layer without creating another
shape file. And now on ArcMap 9.3 i can only make other shape file on
selected objects.
So, i want to ask, is it possible to work like on Arcview changing
selected objects and sending them to another layer or there is no such
possibility. I can´t found this tool on arcMap, so i am asking you.
