Irish National Grid - what has changed between 10.0x & 10.1x re spatial reference?

Hi,

I am attempting to consume x2 cached services into a Silverlight based application however the problem is that I have two sources of cached services using slightly different (albeit the same) spatial references which then causes issues with display in client (as you must (should) have singular spatial reference for your map services.

The cached map services indicate:
- Spatial Reference: 29900 (29902) [from a 10.1x AGS configuration]
- Spatial Reference: 29902 [from a 10.x AGS configuration]

29900 is the depreciated spatial ref for Ireland.

While the two differ (http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/29900/ & http://spatialreference.org/ref/epsg/29902/), from ESRI's point of view, they are the same, its just the name appears to be different.

To verify my point, compare the following two (appreciate one is tiled & one is not but it gets my point across):

Hi Brad,

We're trying to match the EPSG Geodetic Parameter Dataset.

29900 was deprecated by them back in 2001. We didn't follow until much later. I don't see what the reason for the name change was (beyond correcting it for what's actually used), although the area of use also changed. We also changed the original name of 29900 from "Irish_National_Grid" to "TM65_Irish_Grid" around ArcGIS 9.0 or 9.1.

Technically this is causing an issue.

Can ESRI confirm its only a name change that has happened between these releases or have parameters changed as well that cause the issue (again, i am limited as not readily having access to a 10.x environment (which i think is causing the issue when attempting to use with a 10.1 environment).

Silverlight client (API) i believe does a lexical comparision between the cached services, since they differ, its an issue. Its not only cached service that this causes issues for, it is also using dynamic when interacting with graphic operations.

If what you are saying is ESRI has introduced change, then i I consider this a bug that ESRI has introduced. I have an open support ticket with ESRI UK but appreciate if any work-arounds you guys may be aware of to overcome this issue.

I would also like to understand if this is a broader issue introduced in 10.1 than just the Irish National Grid?
