Have you upgraded the geodatabase? Or considered trying to create a new geodatabase and then copy the mosaic dataset to that geodatabase? After copying you should be fine to create the overviews. If you do not want overviews you can always increase the value in the MaxPS to allow them to be seen instead of the overviews.

I created a mosaic dataset with 405 orthos in ArcGIS 10.0. It won't display at full extents. I have to zoom in to the source resolution to view the image. Anyone know how I can get the mosaic to display at the full extent? I tried building overviews but I got an error message saying the mosaic was built in a previous version of ArcGIS and wasn't compatible!?! Help!
