I am new to the GIS world, so I apologize if this has been discussed before. (If so, maybe you can link me to an existing post).

Generally, I am trying to create a new shape file (I can create an empty shape file) using selective polygons from an existing shape file. More specifically, and as an example, I am trying to create a shape file that when displayed will show specific quarter quarters of a section. I have a shape file that has all of the quarter quarters in it. For instance, new shape file WR1000 should include the NWNW, NENE and the NESW of a section. Can I (and how) select these existing polygons from my shape file that includes all of the quarter quarters and include only these in the new WR1000 shape file?

Thanks in advance for any help !
