Database /Geodatabase administrator password,

When creating ???enterprise geodatabase???, it is clear that the ???Database administrator password??? that we need to provide is the same as the one we set at the stage of installation of ???SQL server???.

The issue now is the ???Geodatabase administrator password??? that we need to provide.

1. At which stage this password is set?
2. Or are we required to set the password at this step?
3. If so, why we are not required to confirm it?
4. If the password is set at this stage, then why it should be provided all the time even in case of different database (keeping the same database platform)
5. Is the ???SQL Server Management Studio??? is the only tool by which we can change this password? Are we able to change it from the ArcGIS?

1. If the "sde" user has not been created previously, it will be created now and the password will be set accordingly.
2. If the "sde" user already exists, provide sde user's password.
3. No, even if we are creating it for the first time, we don't have to confirm the password.
4. Its just a security measure.
5. Yes, you can change the password using the Management Studio. You can't do it from ArcGIS interface.

The password is for the sde login. Each time you create a geodatabase with an sde-schema, the sde login is associated with a user (named sde) in that database. The single sde login can be associated with many databases, but it will always connect with the same credentials.

Another way of portraying this can be that, the "sde" user and its password is set at the SQL Server Instance level....so all the databases under that instance are supposed to follow the same credentials..
