      <description>&lt;P&gt;i am new back to GIS&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;i used to be able select records from an existing database layer to create a new layer - but struggle to see how I do this in my student version - publisher ArcGIS - am I missing something really simple as this is a routine task and should be easy to do&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;Is this true for all data or just for a specific layer? Perhaps the data is in a database where you do not have the right privileges?&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;yes i know - its just there is no right click options and i cannot figure out why not - is it set up wrong, in the wrong viewer, setting etc&amp;nbsp; ?&amp;nbsp; - never had this issue before so wondering what's wrong with the ArcGIS i have&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
