Is the Oracle database is faster than SQL database?

I have a performance issue in my web mapping application and wanted to investigate multiple factors that might affect the speed:

�?� Hardware specs of the host and client machines (CPU and RAM)
�?� Cables connecting host and client machines (vpn, leased lines, etc.)
�?� ArcGIS server Tuning (min/max instances, high/low isolation, cashing, etc)
�?� Database (personal geodatabase/file geodatabase/ ArcSDE geodatabase with SQL or Oracle, etc.)
�?� Web mapping application (ADF, Silverlight, Flex)

In this thread just I wanted to know if there might a definite answer whether the Oracle database is much faster than the SQL. For the time being, I�??m using SQL server database and I�??m struggling with the performance issue as the source data for the URLs used in the web mapping applications is the SQL server database

No, there will NOT be a definite answer to this question (which is flawed by failure
to name products correctly).

In my experience, most RDBMS packages perform pretty much equally on the
same physical hardware, with experience and skill in tuning and administration
providing as much as a 20% swing in response characteristics.

If you research the literature, you'll find that unidimensional evaluation for any
software product, much less something as complex as database software, is
least likely to produce satisfactory results.

It was great also when I knew that the file geodatabase is much faster than the ArcSDE goedatabase

A bicycle is still going to be faster going six blocks in Manhattan at noon than
an airplane. The task is identifying the proper vehicle for the purpose, which
is why the question has validity issues.

The reason behind this thread is that I got that generally the Silverlight and Flex are much faster than the ADF and wanted to know if that is true.

I think I got the answer! That�??s not necessarily true!

Different sports cars may take a winding mountain road in slightly different times, but a
tractor-trailer won't ever give them competition. Still, the sports cars aren't going to
score well on the basis of tons of food delivered. As a technologist, you need to learn
how to gauge the similarities and differences of competing software packages, and use
that as feedback into generating unbiased evaluation criteria.
