geocode matching with multiple candidates

I recently had to upgrade to ArcGIS 9.3.1 (Education Edition), and am currently having problems with matching that I have never encountered before. Particularly for manually rematching addresses, if there are multiple possibilities, it will not let me match any of them (the 'button' is not lit up/pressable, if that makes sense). I've never run across this problem before if I have ANY match possibilities, and it does not seem to matter how high of a percentage it is matched at.

Has anyone else run across this, and can anybody think of a solution? Thanks!

If the address has been matched (i.e. Status = M), the Match button is disabled when the first candidate is selected because the address has been matched to this candidate. If you click another candidate, the Match button should be enabled.

This isn't the problem. I am only looking at unmatched addresses, so none of them are matched yet. This problem is occurring when I am manually rematching, and it does not seem to matter which candidate I choose- the 'match' never enables.
