I think the bigger issue here is that ArcMap is crashing while you are selecting features. How are you selecting all of your features? As stated above, try moving to file geodatabase as a test. Right-click the layer in the Table of Contents and do Data > Export Data into a new, empty file geodatabase and then test the behavior with the resulting feature class(s).

Matt

Hello everyone,

After editing a large number of shapefiles, we noticed an error in their location and now they need to be moved to a new one.

To do this, I turned on the 'Editor' and selected all the lines/polygons/points (depending on the geometry of the shapefile) then clicked 'move' under the editor drop-down menu. I just need to add delta x and y and the shapefiles are moved to their correct location.

My question is:

Is there a quick method to move all the shapefiles at once? If I try to select all the shapefiles, ArcMap crashes. ArcMap crashes also if there is a shapefile with a large amount of data such as floor plans of a school campus.

I am using ArcGIS 10.1, I think ArcInfo.

Many Thanks
Gianluca

Can you use an iterative function in model builder to do this?
Perhaps you should be using a file geodatabase instead of large shape files, that might help too.
