I am trying to build pyramids for a raster layer loaded into an SDE database. The error message that is returned says:

"The input data path was typed in incorrectly or no longer exists. In some cases, this error may occur when the dataset does exist. In these cases, it is because the tool is unable to 'see' the particular dataset."

I can definitely see the dataset and add it to ArcMap etc.

Unfortunately, the solution doesn't seem relevant to rasters (" To fix it, go to the feature class properties, then click the Subtypes tab and re-enter the default subtype code. ")

As a workaround I can add the data into ArcMap and then build pyramids but does anyone know how to resolve this using the toolbox option?
